A loan helped a member to purchase new avocado trees & a variety of thread for her huipile making business.

Jasmin Group's story

The ladies of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Jasmin”, located in Solola, Guatemala, have a variety of small businesses that include traditional textile fabrication/sales (colorful blouses called “huipiles” & woven tube skirts called “cortes”), food sales, & animal husbandry (chickens, cattle). The “Microcredit Plus” Program of the organization (loans + education) gives them important guidelines for their businesses including creating a budget, bookkeeping, & prioritizing savings. They discover new information about themselves including sexual & reproductive health, personal development, self-esteem, as well as cultivating a vision for the future.

Yesenia is a member of the group, and is 25 years old with 2 children (3,9). She stayed in school until the 6th grade. Yesenia has two businesses, growing & selling avocados, as well as fabricating beautiful traditional blouses called “huipiles”. She is requesting a loan to invest in the purchase of new avocado trees & a variety of thread. She dreams of expanding her businesses, making them very prosperous & improving the conditions of her family.

Yesenia & her friends in the Trust Bank are gaining the tools to step into a brighter future benefiting themselves, their families & their community. Kiva investors play a vital role in their lives in providing capital for their loans. Thank you!
