Problem
3 billion people globally still depend on dirty fuel for cooking. Daily exposure to smoke causes myriad negative health effects, whilst the inefficient use of biomass in traditional stoves causes deforestation, as well as over-expenditure on cooking fuels—accounting for more than 50% of a households’ monthly expenditures.
Solution
Prime develops & sells modern, highly-efficient, ultra-clean, & affordable biomass cookstoves. Prime cookstoves can be used with firewood or pellets, but also a variety of readily available biomass wastes, such as coconut husk, corncobs & palm kernel shells—significantly reducing household expenditure, as well as deforestation.
To date, Prime cookstoves have been sold to 16,000 households through its local entrepreneurs in Indonesia, Cambodia, Zambia, South Africa & Senegal, improving more than 100,000 lives all along the value chain from production to retail to end-user. See this video for the product in action
Loan Use
Continued impact & scale is hindered by lack of flexible financing terms. This loan will provide high-demand stoves to local entrepreneurs in countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Bangladesh & Nepal with flexible payment terms to support creation of local retail networks & employment. Prime hopes to reach at least 100,000 households in Asia & Africa over the next 5 years, improving the livelihoods of over 500,000 people.
