A loan helped a member to buy fertilizer and seed.

Mutamba Group's story

Memory, a 35-year-old woman from a village in Chihota, survives on farming vegetables for a living. Twice a week she travels together with other women from her village to the city to sell farm produce. Memory’s husband is unemployed and so helps with farming vegetables. However, the income that Memory generates from her business is not sufficient to cover all the family’s needs and does not meet the school fees of her three children. She works part-time for other people in their gardens in order to earn extra income.

Memory is part of a women’s group called Mutamba. They all farm vegetables and seek a loan to help them overcome the challenges that they face. Memory will use her loan of $150 to buy fertilizer and seed. As a group, they are looking forward to a $550 loan from Kiva to help them buy inputs for their gardens.
