A loan helped buy fertilizers and to weed her coffee plantation intended for organic production, as well as invest in bringing water to her house.

María Candelaria's story

María Candelaria lives in the village of Barrio Nuevo, a small community of coffee-growers in the outskirts of San Ignacio, Peru. María is 40 years old and lives with her four children. For 17 years, she has supported herself on her own 2ha coffee plot, selling certified organic coffee of excellent quality at a local cooperative. She has dreams of increasing the area of her coffee farm, giving her children a professional education and improving her family's living conditions.

A loan will give María the opportunity to improve her business by increasing her production with fertilizers. With the earnings, she will invest in pipes to channel water to her house. With this water, María can wash her coffee in the same place where she harvests it and avoid transporting it a great distance. Her coffee washing system will be more efficient and it will give her more opportunities to improve her quality of life.
