Karim is seen in the photo holding the rope of the cow. He is a Malian farmer, thirty-two years old, married and father to one six-year-old child who doesn't attend school. His wife looks after their home and sometimes works as a trader.
Karim has been raising cattle and sheep for more than five years. He buys his livestock in local markets where he also sells them. He makes between 50,000 and 75,000 francs CFA and this provides for the needs of his family (healthcare, clothing, etc).
Karim has requested this loan from the field partner RMCR to buy many sheep and expand his business. He is frequently confronted by the problems of poor sales and high transport costs. In the future, Karim would like to take a larger loan to further expand his business and provide more for the needs of his family.
