The woman raising her hand in the photo is Catherine. She is 35 years old, married, and a mother of three children. She is a member of King'ong'oi Sama Wiwe W.g, a group that joined Hand in Hand Eastern Africa to benefit from enterprise development and financial management training.

She farms maize and beans and rears cattle. She is borrowing a Kiva loan to buy seeds and fertilizer. She hopes this will increase her production and thus increase her income. She will use the anticipated income to provide food for her family and pay school fees for her children.
