Abdullahi's story

Abdullahi is a Babban Gona maize farmer from Sobawa Village. He is a hardworking, married man with 10 children and lives in a mud house with his family. His youngest children are Jamila and Zaiyanatu, whom he hopes grow up to be successful businesspeople.

In the past, his family was only able to eat two meals a day despite working several hours on the farm. As a Babban Gona member, Abdullahi now has access to good seeds, fertilizers, herbicides and other quality inputs that will help him optimize his farm and attain yields up to 3.5 metric tonnes per hectare, 2.3 times the national average in Nigeria, and increase his income earnings up to 3.5 times the national average. With this increase in yield, he is now able to ensure that his family will never go hungry again.

This season, Abdullahi will use the income he makes from his maize sales to pay his children's school fees. Abdullahi’s greatest memory as a Babban Gona farmer is the yield. He is confident that with Babban Gona, his future is secure and that he will have many more great memories and amazing accomplishments.
