A loan helped a member to purchase seed.

Litoral Group's story

The communal bank Litoral will begin its second cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Centro Focal de Copacabana. It is made up of eight members and is run by a board of directors, where Claudia is the treasurer. The businesses that the members of the communal bank carry out are varied and among them are: quinoa sales, vegetable sales, food sales, selling socks, making and selling ladies suits, window sales, coca leaf sales, and potato sales.

The loan that they will take out will benefit small business owners, one of whom is Claudia. She says that this is her second year as a member of Pro Mujer, joining at the invitation of an adviser of the institution that came to her community. Currently, she has a business growing and selling quinoa [grain], chuño [freeze-dried potatoes], and potatoes. She states that she started this business six years ago, and she learned it from her mother.

The loan that she will take out is to increase capital to purchase seed that she will get from the wholesalers in her community. Later, it will help her with the production and harvest of her products. This form of work permits her to generate resources to support her family financially since she lives with a domestic partner.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that it is the health care that the institution offers.
