Leef's story

I grew up in San Francisco in the 70's and 80's, back when it was more funky, laid-back and definitely more affordable. Growing up here, I learned a lot about the values of tolerance, inclusion and compassion and they really helped form who I've become. Comic books, Star Wars and reading science fiction also had an huge impact too!

After college I went and taught English in Korea for several years. And then when I came back, the whole Bay Area was abuzz with the Internet Boom and without even really trying I found myself with a tech job.

Then in 2008 the Recession hit and I was laid off. Realizing I had been saying for years that "someone" should open a comic book store in the Mission, I decide I could be that person. So without much savings and the help of friends and family, I opened the store in the Fall of 2009. I love the eclectic mix of the Mission and it's strong support of literature and the arts. And it's been great to be able to give back in some way to the City that gave so much to making me who I am. The first few years were really hard and I've learned (and continue to learn) a lot! I hope that Mission: Comics inspires San Francisco kids (big & small) to enjoy reading and the arts more.
