Regina's story

My name is Regina Y. Evans and I am a "cliffjumper" for all things of compassion. I was born and raised in the city of Oakland, California. Oakland is a place historically known for its thriving political and social justice roots. I am the youngest child of two politically astute parents. My mom spent her career as an educator, retiring as a college dean and my father was one of the first African-American probation officers in the state of California.

As a child I was incubated inside of the notions of justice, education and compassion. I was always exposed to various cultures and began traveling with my mother at the age of ten. Through the years I continued to travel and have been lucky enough to live in the jeweled country named Australia for 15 years. There I founded and operated a very successful vintage clothing boutique called The Diva's Closet. I had a large celebrity client base including Cate Blanchett and Beyonce. I used the store as a method to inspire women who were in need of a listening ear and calm respite. It was a fascinating experience.

Traveling is a gift that has allowed me to see the varied beauty, and sometimes the ugliness, of humanity. It also placed a seed in me of openness and yearning to seek out the stories behind the faces that I am honored to come across.

As a child I began writing poetry to express my thoughts on the magnificence of differences among cultures, races, and socio-economic groups. This method of expression remained in my fingertips and eventually I began writing poetic social justice plays. Currently these plays surround the issue of sex trafficking. My desire was to tell the stories of youth trapped inside of this evil. On my journey I have become an award winning playwright and perform extensively through the Bay Area in an effort to raise awareness on this issue.

My dreams for the future are to continue to work as a social justice advocate in an effort to come alongside individuals who have been broken by injustice so that they may be able to walk in the fullness of life.
