A loan helped to buy a green house.

Ann's story

Ann is a smallholder farmer residing in Kerugoya, an agricultural town in the central region of Kenya. She is arguably the most successful client of Juhudi Kilimo, a microfinance institution that deals only with smallholder farmers in rural parts of Kenya.

A few years ago, Ann practiced traditional farming with little knowledge and no financing at all. She was doing only half an acre of maize crop per season. The returns were so meager that she could barely fend for survival. She kept doing maize farming for years without turning a profit until 2012, when she switched to dairy, vegetable and tomato farming.

To capitalize more on returns from the booming tomato and vegetables farming, Ann is seeking a loan of KES 60,000 to build another greenhouse. Unlike her neighbors and competitors Ann uses modern farming techniques to ensure high quality produce. By doing this, she has created a name for herself and a demand for her produce.

Your lending will contribute greatly to the actualization of Ann’s goal, which is to expand the greenhouse and give her children a good education.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens and farming equipment.
