A loan helped a member to buy materials for his tailoring business.

Teriya Group's story

The featured borrower is Yacouba, who is pictured seated at the sewing machine. He is 35 and married with three children aged six to ten, one of whom currently attends school. His wife sells shoes and cleans, and Yacouba, who did not have the opportunity to go to school, has worked as a tailor for 17 years.

Yacouba will use his share of the loan funds from RMCR to purchase tailoring supplies. He buys these supplies in the market in Bamako, where he also has a workshop for his business. He typically earns between 15,000 and 40,000 francs per month, which he uses to pay his family’s expenses. These costs include his children's school fees, health coverage, clothing and food.

In the future, Yacouba hopes to help others to learn to sew, and to expand his business with the purchase of an additional sewing machine and supplies.
