Awa is a housewife aged 49 who lives in Mali. Holding a bucket of tomatoes in her lap, Awa lives with her husband who works as a farmer and their six children, aged between 2 and 25, two of them enrolled in school. In future, Awa hopes to help her family to get agricultural materials. She has come to RMCR to finance the necessary seeds and fertilizer for the market gardening that she has been doing for around 10 years.
The profit Awa makes varies from 75,000 to 100,000 F CFA per cycle, that is about 20,000 f per month, which allows her to cover family needs. Her loans are used to buy seeds (peppers, onions, tomatoes). She buys the supplies in nearby markets and sells her produce at the same markets.
Despite small difficulties she sometimes encounters with poor rainfall (water from the pond that she uses for watering may diminish) she is satisfied with this work because she has been able to contribute to the purchase of two plow oxen for her family.
