A loan helped to buy fertilizers and prepare the land where she farms staple grains.

María Elena's story

Maria is 22 years old, and she studied until the eight grade at school. She is married and her husband works in agriculture. They have two children who depend on them.
Maria is a housewife, but for six years she has worked in agriculture. She farms maize, sorghum, bean, squash, etc. Her crops are 1 km from her house and she goes by bicycle. Her day starts at 4:30 a.m. because she has to make breakfast and then take her children to her home so she can look after them. Maria works six hours and then returns home to take care of her children. Sometimes she feels tired, but she does it with a lot of eagerness because she does not want her children to lack for anything.
She needs the loan to buy fertilizers and to prepare the land where she farms staple grains.
Her dream is to see her children graduate from university, and she would like to start studying again, as it is never too late to improve oneself.
