A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Rehema's Group's story

Pictured above is Rehema, often described as an extremely reliable person. She is 35 years old and, as a group leader, she is representing her group of 16 farmers in Teso District, Kenya. She is married and has 4 children.

Rehema is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund again as this means that she is able to earn enough to feed her family, which is why she decided to join in the first place. Rehema says that she is happy to have made that decision because, since she first joined in 2013, she has had a healthier life due to better nutrition, which has improved her day-to-day life significantly. Rehema will use the profits from this season to send her children to school.

The group will use this loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 5.5 acres. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of 10 solar lights.

In this group: Rehema, Carolyne, Charles J, Colleta N, Edmond, James H, Loice N, Mary, Maximilla Y, Mourine N, Millicent O, Astrarikoh, Carolyne, Susan A, Philip, Selina N

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
