SunFarmer
Approved to post Kiva loans from: Nepal
Status update — August 14, 2017
Kiva has moved this Lending Partner to inactive status. This means Sunfarmer is temporarily not fundraising loans on Kiva and this partner doesn’t have an outstanding balance with Kiva lenders. Sunfarmer has recently changed its overall strategy and is taking time to develop a new type of loan to be fundraised on Kiva. If and when this partner requests to fundraise again, Kiva will first conduct any additional monitoring and due diligence tasks we believe necessary.
Partner description:
SunFarmer is a nonprofit organization that brings solar energy to hospitals, schools, and other institutions that lack reliable energy. According to the World Bank and UN, an estimated 1 billion people use health services without electricity and over 291 million children go to primary schools without access to any electricity. Lack of electricity prevents access to basic healthcare, education, and other services that are fundamental to alleviating poverty and improving quality of life.
SunFarmer aims to provide high quality solar energy installations at low-cost financing. The organization installs the solar energy system and provides maintenance and support to ensure the system performs over the long-term.
A unique lending approach:
SunFarmer's loans are used to install solar energy systems at health facilities, schools, and other critical service institutions in remote areas that currently have little or no access to electricity. Funding from Kiva will be used for loans given directly to these institutions.
