Faridah's story

Faridah is 48-years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children who are all currently in school. For the past 8 years, Faridah has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Faridah has requested a loan of 1,900,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food for breakfasts and lunches and a fridge for soft drinks. This will help Faridah to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living, by providing them with enough food.

Faridah hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a piece pf land and build a house of her own. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
