Irene
A loan of $550 helps to buy more wheat flour, cooking oil, and cassava to cook foods to sell.

Irene's story
Irene is 37-years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children with 2 of them currently in school. For the past 2 years, Irene has been working hard to manage her snack business, which sells fried cassava, samosas, pancakes, and chapati.
To help expand her business, Irene has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more wheat flour, cooking oil, and cassava, to cook foods to sell. This will help Irene to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living, by providing them with enough food.
Irene hopes that in the future she will be able to improve her business. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
