Manuela's story
Twenty-two-year-old Manuela is married to a blacksmith, and they have a 19-month-old soon. They live in the department/state of Solola. Manuela only attended school for six years since her parents lacked financial resources.
Two years ago, she opened her convenience store in a rented space. Three months ago, she shared that she was happy to add thread for weaving and embroidering traditional textiles. She also added chicken by the pound, and icy flavored confections to the store inventory. Sometimes, her husband is able to assist her with the store.
She requests her first Kiva loan to restock the shelves of her store including snacks and beverages, as well as quality thread. These items enjoy great demand in her neighborhood Her goal is to have her own building for the store.
Manuela enrolled in the Friendship Bridge “Bridge to Success” program because she was interested in getting specific targeted training to take her expanding business to the next level. Every 15 days, she meets with a facilitator who helps her make plans so that she can achieve her goals. In addition, she learns about how to manage inventory and make wise loan decisions effectively.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for helping Manuela help herself and successfully step into a brighter and more prosperous future!
