Flores Margaritas Group's story

In the department/state of Suchitepequez there is a constant demand for corn, as it is a basic crop and essential for feeding humans and some animals. For this reason, Angelica, who is 45 years old, has been growing and selling corn for seven years from a small piece of land that belongs to her. She supplies both retail and wholesale customers.

Four years ago, Angelica began selling cold drinks from her home. She is married to a man who works in construction.

She has 7 children above the age of 15. The younger three are in primary and secondary school, one has finished grade 9 and three have graduated from secondary school. Two of those children are married, and Angelica has three grandchildren. Her husband and some of the children help her in the growing and harvesting of corn.

Angelica has three years of formal education, and she is seeking the way to continue to prosper in her business. She is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy fertilizers and insecticides, with the goal of improving the quality and quantity of her crops.

There are eight Spanish-speaking women in the communal bank Puente de Amistad "Flores Margaritas." They sell cold drinks, catalog beauty products, smoothies and tortillas. They also grow corn and raise chickens.

For these women, the "Microcredito Plus" program is an essential tool because it empowers them with subjects about businesses, education, and women's and family health.

Thank you to the Kiva lenders, for your kindness in financing these loans.
