Flor Paz Group's story

Many of the women who participate in Friendship Bridge's Microcrédito Plus program of loans, education and health services are empowered. Not having a formal education, they decide to work arduously at their small businesses to contribute financially to their families.

This is the case of Evelyn (28 years old). She is in a committed relationship and has two children (5 and 12), who are students in kindergarten and seventh grade.

Three years ago, Evelyn decided to undertake her own business selling beverages and typical foods as a street vendor. She supports herself with one of her sisters to make her recipes. Alongside the business she also raises free-range chickens and pigs which she sells from her house.

Evelyn asks for her second Kiva loan to expand her farm, purchasing more animals, and beverages and ingredients for her recipes. She is sure that, with the increase in her businesses, she will be able to continue contributing to her family's development.

The eight women in the Friendship Bridge communal bank Flor de Paz are from the department/state of Suchitepéquez. For them, businesses such as raising domestic animals, beverages, corn, regional foods, new casual clothing, and bread are very profitable. These women really appreciate the monthly trainings that cover four essential topics which are health, family, women, and businesses. They typically share what they learn with relatives and friends.

Thank you for getting to know these women and financing their loans!
