A loan of $3,725 helps a member to buy chicks to run a poultry business.

Santhie Sérère Group's story
The banc villageois was created in November 1995 and is made up of brave women who are active in the trade. They all live in the same village, and stand shoulder to shoulder with each other.
Madame Fatou is a 58-year-old widow with 7 children, including 4 boys. All her children go to school. She is active in poultry farming. She's the group's representative, on the right of the photo with one hand raised.
She's going to buy 20 crates of 50 chicks each, 37 bags of feed and a crate of vitamins.
Her business is booming as soon as the chickens reach maturity. She has a clientele who come from the big city to buy in bulk, but she leaves some for sale in the village.
Profits are used to manage the house in terms of food, clothing and health, as she has lost her husband and is the only one to help her children with their needs.
