Santhie Sérère Group's story

The banc villageois was created in November 1995 and is made up of brave women who are active in commerce. They all live in the same neighborhood, and are very supportive of each other.

Madame Fatoumata is a 62-year-old married woman with 6 children, all of whom attend school. She trades in shoes, handkerchiefs, scarves and food products. She's the group's representative, on the right of the photo with one hand raised.

She's going to buy 25 pairs of shoes and handkerchiefs, 25 scarves and 10 bags of rice, 5 20-liter drums, onions and potatoes, 3 bags each.

She has good sales techniques, over 6 years' experience, and also gives on credit to her best customers, who pay without any problem.

With her profits, she participates in a tontine (a type of savings group), reinforcing her savings in the village bank, and another part supports her husband in his family's expenses.
