Luis's story

Luis is a young indigenous farmer from Santander de Quilichao, Cauca, with 11 years of experience. He owns a one-hectare farm allocated to him by the indigenous council, where he cultivates over 5,000 coffee plants alongside 200 banana trees, diversifying his production.

Luis harvests his crops every two weeks, collecting more than a ton of coffee, which he currently transports to the processing facility using an old cart. This method limits his mobility due to the cart’s age and the physical effort required.

Luis lives with his wife and two children in a house built on his land. His wife plays a vital role in managing the crops and daily farm activities.

A loan of 4,811,699 COP will enable Luis to purchase a motorcycle, simplifying the transportation of his harvest to the processing plant. In Colombia, motorcycles are an essential tool for farmers, as they facilitate the transportation of supplies and products across challenging terrains, optimizing time and reducing costs.
