A loan of $2,175 helps to purchase more charcoal for resale.

Christine's story
Christine is 38 years old and lives in Matugga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has five children, with 4 of them currently in school. Christine has worked hard for the past 12 years to manage her retail shop, which sells charcoal. To help expand her business, Christine has requested a loan of 8,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. Christine will use the loan to purchase more charcoal for resale, which will help Christine generate greater profits, repay the loan in time, and pay some of the house bills. Christine hopes that in the future, she will be able to acquire land and construct a house. She is a member of BRAC’s microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
