Ang Cang 150 Group's story

Phong is a married woman who lives with her family in a remote commune of Dien Bien province, Vietnam. Her childhood was associated with hardship and deprivation; she was illiterate until she joined a literacy class when she grew up because her family could not afford to send her to school.

Phong has been farming since a child and now continues in this line of work with her husband and two children because this is their main source of family income. Her agricultural activities are diverse and include growing rice and raising cattle, pigs, chickens. She has been rearing cows for two years. She feeds cows with available food at home and grazes them in a natural environment.

Phong wants to expand her husbandry business by buying more cows with this loan and support from the Anh Chi Em program and Kiva lenders. Profits from this investment in the future will allow her to buy more poultry and livestock so she can try raising chickens, ducks, or pigs. She hopes all of her efforts will help her family have a more prosperous life. In this photo, she is standing on the right.
