Morn's story

Mr. Morn is 42 years old. He has been a farmer for 20 years. Now he also farms short term rice on land the size of eight hectares, which he could farm twice a year. He needs to spend around three months just collecting the crops, which are five tons per hectare, to sell. The crops will be sold directly to his local middleman, who buys from his village. He generally rents another villager’s tractor to plough the rice paddy every year. The renting cost is around $50 per hectare.

To reduce some costs on renting a tractor, he also borrowed a loan of 16,000,000 Khmer Riel (KHR) to buy a walking tractor. After acquiring the walking tractor, he can now plough his rice paddy on time, just like the other villagers, allowing him to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
