Mujeres Pableñas Group's story

Forty-four-year-old Ana, a mother of four children who range in age from five to nineteen, is proud that all attend school. She is a high school graduate who studied business administration.

For fifteen years, Ana has sold underwear and tee shirts as a street vendor. One of her children helps her attend to customers. Because there is great demand for her clothing, Ana requests her second Kiva loan to buy more inventory in different sizes and designs. She visualizes opening her own storefront, selling in other places and having an employee from her community.

Ana is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Pableñas” along with seven other women in the department/state of Suchitepequez. These women sell tortillas, manage convenience stores, or sell underwear, tee shirts and belts. They appreciate monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. Recent topics have been about self-esteem, the use of social media, women’s preventative health practices and mental health. Other topics include information about business, family and women. Every other month, the program offers the ladies access to health care, delivered by a traveling nurse, who offers exams, consults and family planning.

Thank you Kiva lenders for helping Ana and her friends help themselves to create more prosperous lives!
