Malongoti 1 Club Group's story
Molson is a youth farmer aged 28 years old is married with two children, aged 1 and 4 years and they are not yet in school.
He joined coffee farming at the age of 21 and he enjoys this farming since the money comes at once, after sales. As a result they are able to build houses and to buy houses in town with the profits from the sales.
Coffee is a profitable farming business since very few districts in Malawi practice this kind of business. He started coffee farming because he was motivated by some coffee farmers within his community.
However, his business is challenged by a lack of inputs, especially fertilizer, pests and diseases and the high cost of labour for farm work.
Molson believes that coffee farming in Malawi can do better and reduce the importing of coffee from outside countries. His dream is to improve harvests and to become a reliable supplier to Malawi’s local companies that manufacture coffee.
He joined FIFAD programme to have access to finance to buy farm inputs i.e fertilizer. This loan will help him to increase productivity of coffee which will give him more income after sales.
