Shanita
A loan of $700 helps to purchase more fashionable clothes to sell.
Shanita's story
Shanitah is 30 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, with three of them currently in school. For the past 12 years, Shanitah has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes, like shirts and dresses. To help expand her business, Shanitah has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more fashionable clothes to sell. This will help Shanitah to generate greater profits and pay some of the household bills to cover food and basic needs for the family.
Shanitah hopes that in the future, she will be able to buy land and build rental houses for business. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
