Lute's story

Lute is single, she makes a living for her family by weaving. She lives at her parents' house together with her sibling, the family consist of seven members. Lute learned how to weave from her mother. Lute and her mother joined a weaving group of women in their village. They spend most of their time weaving taovalas, mats and fihu, but often they weave taovalas because it is easy to sell to the local people when they need money urgently. They sell their product locally and overseas. The price of a taovala depends on the size and the style.

Lute needs to buy pandanus to help her finish her weaving and in order for her to continue on running her weaving business.
