Valientes Retaltecas Group
A loan of $6,800 helps a member to buy a large quantity of eggs that are in high demand in her area and party supplies for a new business.
Valientes Retaltecas Group's story
26-year-old Gladys has a high school education and is a single mother of a seven-year-old daughter in the first grade.
Gladys makes piñatas, and sells party supplies and decorations. She has been doing this for two years and has her own store and has one employee. She also sells eggs.
Her goal is to enlarge the business, open new branches, and open an additional business selling party supplies. She will use her first Kiva loan to buy eggs that are enjoying high demand in her neighborhood in the department/state of Retalhuleu.
Gladys joined nine other Spanish-speaking women and formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Valientes Retaltecas.” These ladies sell catalog products, clothing, party supplies and piñatas that they make.
They are happy to participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge that includes monthly educational training. Recent topics have been about savings, business skills, family planning and women’s good health practices. Other topics are about nutrition, hygiene, family matters and effective communication. An additional part of the program consists of bi-monthly health care services delivered by a traveling nurse who offers exams, consults and family planning.
Gladys and her friends send their gratitude to Kiva lenders from all parts of the world who fund their loans. Thank you for lending a helping hand!
