Amistosas Group
A loan of $4,350 helps a member to buy foodstuffs, seeds, fertilizer, pigs and animal feed.
Amistosas Group's story
Many women around the world face a variety of barriers to accessing education and others have no option. This is Reyna's case (49 years old) where she could not get an education. She is married to a carpenter and has six children from twelve to twenty-two years of age. The youngest is in the fourth grade. The eldest children only completed the fifth grade, two are married and Reyna is a grandmother to eight. She has grown cardamom for fifteen years and raises broiler chickens and pigs. Reyna has the support of two children for her business.
Due to good financial management she was able to save up and opened a convenience store three years ago at a rented location. She wishes to increase inventory at her business and needs to request her first Kiva loan. Reyna will buy basic foodstuffs, seeds, fertilizer, pigs and animal feed.
Reyna is a member of the communal bank Puente de Amistad "Amistosas" along with eight other women who live in the department/ state of Quiché. These women work raising animals, growing cardamom and have convenience stores. In addition to the authorized loan they will also receive monthly educational talks which form part of the Microcredit Plus program. The subjects they learn are business, education, family and women.
Thank you very much Kiva lenders for financing these loans for entrepreneurial women like Reyna.
