Lucila Aracely's story
Fifty six year old Lucila has a ninth grade education and then left school when she got married at twenty-two. Before that, she helped her mother with housework because her mother sold live chickens in the local market. She married a corn farmer who grows a small amount of plants to take care of the family. He has his own business selling pewter containers and tableware both inside and outside of their community in the department/state of Quetzaltenango..
Lucila is the mother of four grown children who range in age from thirty to thirty five. Although the oldest son only reached the third grade, the other three finished high school and have diplomas in technical drawing, sciences/letters, and in accounting. They are all married and there are nine grandchildren.
Thirty years ago, Lucila opened her business selling quilted bed linen in various sizes including for children. Some have designs of flowers and animals. She has one employee who helps her sell in other towns and departments. She stays home taking care of her other business raising chickens that she sells live from her home. She plans to buy more bedding.
Lucila shared that her goal is to continue to grow her businesses with the help of Friendship Bridge and Kiva. She happily participates in the Friendship Bridge "Bridge to Success” program and has created an action plan so that she can achieve her goals and become a more empowered woman and entrepreneur.
Thank you, Kiva lenders for helping Lucila move ahead!!
