A loan of $6,625 helps a member to buy animals such as cows, pigs, and chickens.
Cruzche Iii Group's story
Many Guatemalan women start a business in order to generate income and contribute to their home's economy. This is the case of Marcelina (25 years old), a single mother of two daughters, aged nine months and three years. Despite different challenges, for two years she has been arranging threads which are used to make textiles. She is very happy and motivated because six months ago she started a second business raising pigs, sheep, and chickens that she sells at the market and from home. Marcelina wants to expand her farm by integrating more animals to improve the productivity of her business. With complete confidence she approaches Kiva's lenders to request her tenth loan. With the capital Marcelina will buy cows, pigs, and chickens.
Marcelina is one of the eight K'iche Mayan women who form the Puente de Amistad Community Bank “Cruzche III”, and are from the department/state of Quiché. They greatly benefit from the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, monthly training and medical care. Topics of utmost importance such as savings, the proper use of loans and family planning enrich your knowledge to achieve your objectives. Most of these women raise animals and arrange threads to make textiles. Bi-monthly they benefit from the Health program, where they have access to basic women's services, which helps them prevent diseases.
