Norma Nineth's story
Norma is a forty-nine-year-old Kaqchikel Mayan woman from a rural community on the shores of the beautiful Lake Atitlán in the Department/state of Sololá. She is married to a welder who has his own metal welding shop. They are parents of nine children (14 to 33 years old). Of Norma's children, three minors study in primary school, and the adults completed secondary school, five are married and have seven grandchildren.
Norma has six years of formal education and nine years ago she began selling delicious regional foods, meals, making cakes and desserts. She sells on the street and on request at special events (weddings, quinceaneras, baptisms, and graduations). Norma is renowned for her exquisite recipes and several organizations place orders.
Over the years the business grew so she currently has two employees. Due to the high demand from the clientele, Norma needs a larger loan, so she joined the new program Puente de Amistad "Puente al Éxito". This program offers business development with a local business developer to help you plan and expand your business. Norma is very excited to reach out to Kiva lenders for her first individual loan. With the loan she will be able to buy ingredients such as: flour, eggs, coloring, sugar, meters, industrial mixer and baking accessories.
Thank you.
